The petition of electors of the Division of Mirani draws to the attention of the House that the Minister for Police recently announced high-tech night-vision cameras and an extended drone fleet would be used to crack down on hooning in Queensland. Hooning on secluded suburban streets in the middle of the night is not only dangerous but stops families sleeping and enjoying a peaceful life. This is particularly stressful for families with babies and young children. We also draw to the attention of the House that Palmyra Dragway has developed a proposal for construction of a drifting pad at their facility. If built, this facility would provide a legal alternative to hooning, thus reducing sleep disturbance and increase public safety.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to redirect part of the State Government budget that would normally be used for enforcement of hooning laws to development of a safer and more sociable alternative at the Palmyra Dragway for car and motorcycle enthusiasts.
