Queensland residents draw attention to the need for the Minister for Transport and Main Roads to expedite the upgrade and duplication of Exit 49 of the M1, at Pimpama. As part of the upgrade, a new southbound on ramp, off Yawalpah Road east of the current on ramp is required, to allow the roundabout to become a four-way signalised intersection. Dangerous ramping occurs every afternoon in peak periods and regularly in the morning at Exit 49. It is a serious safety issue that has the potential to cause serious accidents resulting in injury or death. The funding for this upgrade, on a 50-50 basis, between the Federal and State Governments, has been confirmed and that means there is no valid reason to delay the planning and construction process.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure the government undertakes, as a matter of utmost urgency, improvements to the operation of this dangerous interchange, Exit 49 of the M1 at Pimpama, as part of the COVID-19 Economic Recovery plan.
