TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House the serious lack of regulations involving the Queensland funeral industry and the current State Government’s perspective that this industry is not a priority.  Queensland Funeral Directors are not subject to a consistent set of regulated standards, rather leaving discretion on whether to adhere to a non-binding voluntary Code of Conduct.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to urge the Premier to regulate the Queensland Funeral Industry to a) bring this industry in line with other jurisdictions; b) provide proper protection to grieving families; and c) govern what happens to our loved ones when they die. We further request that regulations be drafted, tabled and dealt with as a matter of priority before the State Election to be held in October 2020.
