The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House Kamerunga Road in Freshwater and Stratford (Cairns) is a state-owned road without any pedestrian crossings or refuges. An extremely well-used $5million bike path exists on the northern side of the road, however, all residents businesses and schools ae located on the eastern side of the road with no safe crossing for the extent of Kamerunga Road.

Residents of this area respectfully request pedestrian crossings/refuges be funded in three locations, in proximity to 1. Freshwater Train Station; 2. Freshwater State School; and 3. Stratford Village Shopping precinct. Whilst Kamerunga Road is a DTMR asset, Cairns Regional Council has already designed and received DTMR approval for the designs of the refuges so this petition now seeks the urgent funding of these refuges as an important community safety initiative.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to approve funding for three pedestrian crossings/refuges on Kamerunga Road, Freshwater and Stratford.
