TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents and rate payers of the Shire of Southern Downs draws to the attention of the House to:

1. High increase in rates for a large number of residents and businesses within the Shire of 20% to 50% on what they were last year without warning making it unaffordable to all.

2. That commercial ratepayers in Warwick pay 0.77 cents in the dollar on their valuation whilst in Stanthorpe commercial ratepayers pay 1.88 cents in the dollar which is more than double that of Warwick and hence inequitable.

3. That the Southern Downs Regional Council did not comply with the principles of Section 107 of the Local Government (Finance, Plans and Reporting) Regulation 2010 as adopted by them regarding the equitable distribution of rates for the 2011 Financial Year.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to:

1. Remove the existing Mayor, Councillors and CEO as we believe that they are incompetent in managing the financial affairs of the Southern Downs Regional Council.

2. Appoint auditors to review the financial statements of the Council.

3. Appoint administrators to manage the council until new council elections are held.
