TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House their concerns at the negative environmental, social and economic impacts of an up to 1200 bed private facility on Community Purposes Land which has been leased for 39 years to a foreign developer for private profit, resulting in the loss of this land for the future use of the community for which it was intended.Your petitioners, therefore request the House to respect the wishes of the community and refuse the material change of use sought by Queensland Accommodation Company for the destruction of one of the last areas of endangered remnant forest in the Southport area. The destruction of trees is in direct contravention of an edict given to the Primary Industries Department to save more trees. We seek a commitment from the House to retain and manage Community Purpose Domain for that which it was intended: "the benefit of residents now and in the future".Further we request that the Premier and Ministers responsible do not interfere in, or override the decision handed down by Gold Coast City Council.
