TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the urgent need to fast track the construction of a Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) for the Northern Gold Coast community.

The statistics show that the Northern Gold Coast, centred on the Coomera State Electorate, is the fastest growing region in Queensland, with an explosion in the population from 22,500 people in 2013 to more than 87,000 people in 2021, and is projected to be almost 107,000 by 2026.

The Coomera State Electorate population, under the age of 15, is around 24,000 or 27.5% of residents. This is 50% higher than any other region in Queensland. The broader City of Gold Coast population under 15 years of age is just 18.3%.

The target demographic for PCYC Queensland is youth, up to the age of 24. Almost 34,000 or 40% of the Coomera State Electorate is in this age group.

The call for a PCYC in the Northern Gold Coast region has broad community support, including the City of Gold Coast, police, school communities, local community groups such as the Rotary Club of Ormeau-Pimpama and local residents.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to ensure the construction of a PCYC on the Northern Gold Coast, as a matter of urgency.
