Introductory Speech

about the bill 

On 27 November 2012 the Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Hon Jeff Seeney MP, introduced the Gasfields Commission Bill 2012 to the Queensland Parliament.

In accordance with Standing Order 131, the Bill was referred to the State Development, Infrastructure and Industry Committee for consideration and report to the House by 27 March 2013.

The objective of the Bill is to provide for the establishment of the Gasfields Commission and prescribe the commission's membership, objectives, functions, powers and obligations.

The Bill provides for the statutory appointments of the Gasfields Commissioner (the chairperson), the commission's part-time commissioners and the general manager by the Governor in Council.

Public hearing

The committee held two public hearings on the Bill.  One was held in Brisbane on Wednesday 13 February 2013 and the other in Toowoomba on Friday 15 February 2013. Refer links below
