Referral

On 11 February 2014, the Communities Legislation (Funding Red Tape Reduction) Amendment Bill 2014 was introduced into the Legislative Assembly by the Hon Tracy Davis MP, Minister for Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.

The Bill was referred to the Health and Community Services Committee in accordance with Standing Order 131. The committee was required to report to the Parliament by 12 March 2014.

The Bill

The stated objective of the Bill is to safeguard funding for the provision of services and products to the community, to simplify regulation, reduce red tape costs and have more consistent funding arrangements across social services agencies. The Bill amends the Community Services Act 2007 so that it would be able to be used for all funding to non-government organisations, local governments and other entities by the Department of Community Services, Child Safety and Disability Services. The Disability Services Act 2006 would be amended by the Bill to remove provisions that are duplicated in the Community Services Act 2007, and it repeals the Family Services Act 1987

The Bill and Explanatory Notes are available at:
