Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that Queensland legislation allows local government to install Linear Parking Control Signs and issue parking fines if signs are not followed. But nowhere in Queensland legislation does it require local government to have all their parking signs comply with Australian Standard AS 1742.11.2016 B 2.4 Orientation which requires signs at 30 +/- 10 degrees towards traffic. The Queensland Government adopted this new standard several years ago but many such parking signs still do not even comply with the previous MUTCD Queensland standard of 20 to 45 degrees towards oncoming traffic.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to either pass new legislation or amend existing legislation to require all Queensland local governments to comply with Australian Standards for all existing and future parking signage or remove all those signs which do not or cease issuing parking fines until all signs under each local government area control are compliant.
