Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the urgent need for further state funding government for arthritis sufferers through not-for-profit Arthritis Queensland.
Currently in Queensland more than 8% of the population lists arthritis as a long-term health condition, with the debilitating chronic illness having significant and lifelong impacts on individuals of all ages. With arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions already costing Australia’s health system an estimated $14 billion annually, there is a need for further outreach, support and education services. Arthritis Queensland plays a crucial role in providing this support and assistance to those affected, but current funding levels are insufficient to meet the growing demand for services. At least $1.75 million over four years is required.
Your petitioners, therefore, urgently request the House to do all within its power to ensure increased, ongoing funding to Arthritis Queensland:
• to enhance existing services
• develop new rheumatology nurse programs
• expand online exercise programs
• establish regional pilot programs.
