Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House, the community's call for the Queensland Government to buy back Taylor Point at Trinity Beach from developers, who currently have it for sale. The community has campaigned for over 35 years, with many court battles, to save Cairns last remaining undeveloped headland. Taylor Point is of immense beauty and value to the community as a green zone in an urban environment. If conserved, it will attract tourists and Far North Queensland residents to the area for a family friendly nature experience. Visitors will be able to relax, bushwalk, fish, view flora and fauna and learn about local history and cultural significance. The walking trail links Earl Hill through Taylor Point to Palm Cove, which then connects to the Wangetti Trail to Port Douglas. The educational possibilities for this land are many, including giving James Cook University access for ongoing research into climate change, tropical environments, marine studies and flora and fauna studies. Students ranging from Prep to University could use Taylor Point for educational day trips, as it is part of a wildlife corridor with a combined 127 species of insects, reptiles, arachnids, birds and mammals, plus 170 species of plants.

Taylor Point is significant for its Indigenous Cultural Heritage and would be an area for Indigenous ranger training and bush tucker education.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to buy back this exceptional land before it is lost to community and future generations forever.
