COMMITTEE'S REPORT
The committee tabled its report on 5 December 2022.
OVERVIEW
Role of the Auditor-General
The role of the Auditor-General is to provide Parliament with independent assurance of public sector accountability and performance. This is achieved through reporting to Parliament on the results of its financial and performance audits.
About the Auditor-General Report
View: Auditor-General Report 5: 2021-22—Managing Queensland’s transition to renewable energy
The Auditor-General’s report was tabled on 25 November 2021.
In June 2017, the Queensland Government committed to a renewable energy target (the target). To meet the target, 50 per cent of all energy consumed in Queensland must come from renewable sources, such as sunlight, wind, and water, by 2030. The Department of Energy and Public Works (the department) is responsible for managing Queensland’s energy policy. The Auditor General's report follows on from the Auditor-General Report 5: 2021-22—Managing Queensland’s transition to renewable energy and examined the department’s management of the transition to renewable energy.
The report recommended the department communicates its overall vision and objectives for the transition and conducts an interim review by 2025 to formally assess its progress and consider further actions needed to achieve the target. The report also recommended the department updates its calculation of progress against the target and improves its public reporting on the transition to renewable energy.
