Career

Being one of thirteen children and having a large extended family, has given me a very broad perspective on the world. Out of my siblings, you’ll find a mix of professions, teachers, bankers, a farmer and a couple of small business operators. The next generation is even more diverse. Personally, I started work as a filing clerk in Queensland Health at 16 years of age in 1980. Over the ensuing 37 years, I spent the bulk of my career in the Department of Housing and worked my way through numerous jobs across Queensland before reaching the position of Regional Director, Central Queensland and North Coast Region. One of the things I’ve loved most about being an MP is the opportunity it provides to help people who need support and a local voice in government. I understand how important it is to have the fabric of the community supported but also the importance of having a strong advocate to bring infrastructure and jobs to our region. I’m proud to say that during my term, we’ve seen work start on Rookwood Weir, the Capricornia Correctional Centre upgrade, which will create more than 200 ongoing full time jobs, the Northern Access upgrade and the Capricorn Highway duplication to Gracemere. We’ve also more recently secured money to upgrade Lawrie Street at Gracemere to reduce congestion and for stage 1 of the Browne Park redevelopment – the home of Rugby League in Rocky.
Official Awards: 2016 Department of Housing and Public Works Australia Day Medallion for coordination and front line management of Housing response to Cyclone Marcia.
Community Activity: Involved in various sporting clubs with our children, soccer, swimming, football, Apex, Rotary.
