Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that -

  • Senior Officers of the Local Government Association Queensland (LGAQ) interact with the community on Facebook page and like and share a wide spectrum of online degrading comments,
  • The LGAQ is a co-author with the OIA of the Local Government Social Media Community Guideline, but Senior Officers of the LGAQ have online engaged in personal harassment and denigration of candidates in the 2020 Local Government Elections, and
  • Senior Officers of the LGAQ have inappropriate online interactions with nominated candidates and consistent breaches of policy on online ethics.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the Queensland Government to withdraw all public funding from the LGAQ which is engaged in directly interfering in Queensland Local Governments by damaging candidate’s reputations to gain a desired outcome to suit their business.
