TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the proposal by Brisbane City Council to apply for permission to construct a zipline tourism complex on the Trust Lands of Mt Coot-tha, to be privately owned and operated, on land held in Trust for ‘a public park ... and for no other purpose whatsoever’.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to direct the Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, Hon Dr Anthony Lynham, to:

  • note that the community does not support any part of the proposed zipline complex at Mt Coot-tha;
  • not approve any application for an additional purpose to allow any part of the proposed zipline complex to proceed;
  • not approve any lease for the purpose of any part of the proposed zipline complex;
  • state clearly on the record that the use of the Mt Coot-tha for any part of the proposed zipline complex is not consistent with its purpose as a site for ‘a public park ... and for no other purpose whatsoever’.
