The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the excessively low speed limits along the Northbrook Parkway between Wivenhoe-Somerset Road and the Mount Glorious township. This road is famous throughout Australia as one of the great motorcycling roads near Brisbane and draws in tens of thousands of recreational motorcyclists each year. The money these riders spend underpins the viability of local businesses and the state economy generally. Generally, motorcycles can safely travel this road more quickly than cars in good conditions but the speed limits are designed for cars travelling the steep and twisting roads. Road conditions along the Northbrook Parkway can vary so markedly it is particularly important for motorcyclists to be focussed on the road and ride to conditions in order to travel along it safely. The excessively low speed limits are hazardous to motorcyclists as they need to be constantly monitoring their speed rather than be focussed on the road and conditions ahead.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to have these speed limits be reviewed so motorcyclists are not disadvantaged.
