Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that Queensland has the opportunity to lead, demonstrating to its citizens and the world that it is committed to a more sustainable future with a vibrant economy and environment. With the increasing amount of plastic, aluminium and glass containers littering streets, creeks and beaches due to lack of recycling incentives, and with growing support from the community at large, it's time for Queensland to commit to a cleaner tomorrow by supporting a cash for containers initiative which would reduce pollution and litter both in the ocean and on land. We see a future where the community feel supported by their government in their effort to recycle plastic containers and cans for a cleaner and healthier Queensland.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to support a Container Deposit Scheme that would see the decrease in litter and could provide financial returns to individuals and community organisations.
