The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the untenable situation where persons in society with legal training cannot progress their career or make a living from their chosen profession should they not be able to find a law placement or position in the current employment environment.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to take action to amend the Legal Profession Act 2007 to provide the following individuals with a right to perform basic legal services for fee or reward: 1) individuals holding legal qualification/s ie. law degree, graduate diploma of legal practice; and 2) unemployed lawyers who possess a restricted practising certificate.
