The petition of electors of the Division of Bulimba draws to the attention of the House the urgent need for a lift to be installed at the Morningside Railway Station on the Wynnum Road side of the station.

The Overpass is a barrier to a lot of people – particularly the elderly, parents with young children, and people with disabilities – who cannot use it because (i) the steps are unreasonably high to climb, and (ii) the six long ramps are unhelpful.

The current ramps and stairs were built at the station after a rail line was installed to carry coal to the Port.  They were badly designed and are an eyesore on the landscape.  Prior to the construction of the coal line, there had been easy access to Morningside station for all commuters, via a rail crossing on Richmond Road.

For years residents have made complaints about the poor access to the station.  However, there has been no improvement.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to install a lift at the Morningside Railway Station on the Wynnum Road side of the station as a matter of priority.
