Dangerous hooning in Mansfield
Eligibility - Citizens of Queensland29 Morialta Street
MANSFIELD QLD 4122
Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House the increasing incidence of dangerous hooning in Mansfield and surrounding suburbs. This reckless behaviour poses a significant threat to public safety and quality of life.
Your petitioners note that streets including, but not limited to, Broadwater Road, Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road, Ham Road, Wecker Road and Morialta Street are regularly affected. Of particular concern is Morialta Street, where hoons circumvent the traffic lights at the Broadwater/Ham Road intersection.
Your petitioners further note the former Miles Government’s commitment of $1 million to install anti-hooning cameras with automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR), facial recognition capabilities, and technologies for detecting vehicles without visible number plates. The funding also aimed to integrate local council CCTV networks with the Queensland Police Service.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to take all necessary steps to ensure the installation of advanced anti-hooning surveillance cameras in Mansfield, particularly along known hooning hotspots; to integrate local council and police camera systems; and to deploy technology capable of detecting unregistered or obscured vehicles, in order to protect the safety and wellbeing of residents.
