The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House a) The Gold Coast City Council on 29th November 2004 resolved to offer for sale freehold land at Surfers Paradise known as Neat Shannon Park, Bruce Bishop Car Park and Surfers Paradise Transit Centre, b) The area comprising Neat Shannon Park was donated to Council on the undertaking that it would be used in perpetuity as public open space, c) A substantial part of construction of Bruce Bishop Car Park and Surfers Paradise Bus Transit Centre was paid for from trust funds subscribed by property owners to provide car parking in central Surfers Paradise, d) Important public facilities will be lost and the Gold Coast community will be severely damnified if Council's decision is implemented. Your petitioners therefore request the House to take steps pursuant to Section 161 of the Local Government Act (Q) to obtain a Regulation of the Governor in Council permanently suspending the above resolution of the Council.
