Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that currently non-urgent euthanasia is able to be undertaken by persons other than Veterinary Surgeons. This includes all animals but is most prevalent in the agriculture industries where killing of unwanted young animals routinely occurs.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to prohibit the euthanasia of animals in non-urgent circumstances unless carried out by a Veterinary Surgeon. Breeders and producers must have a humane and ethical documented process for ensuring unwanted animals are not killed, including auction, direct sale, surrender to animal welfare groups, raising for alternate industries. All births and deaths must be recorded, including imagery of circumstances justifying urgent euthanasia, diagnosis by a veterinary surgeon (where applicable), disposal methods.
