TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that all councils and cities in Queensland refuse to have electronic petitions from their citizens. This means so many people are precluded from asking their councillors and elected city officials to do something for the community. Sunshine Coast council currently requires 10 sheets of paper showing the petition and each with a signature.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to alter the Local Government Act 2009 and Local Government Regulation 2012 and the relevant Brisbane City acts to include a compulsory part requiring they conduct electronic petitions to be answered by council.
