TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the increasing moves of governments, government agencies, and corporations, to enforce a cashless society.

Cash is and must remain legal tender in Queensland.

Access to cash, and the ability to use cash to make purchases and transact business is becoming more and more difficult. Bank branches are closing at an alarming rate, especially in rural and remote Queensland.  The major banks and their cash transport contractors are claiming that it is more and more costly to transport cash.  Yet they also charge exorbitant merchant fees, often worn by small business.

Your petitioners, request the House to immediately enforce that all state government offices, including department service centres, and state-owned sports and recreation facilities, must accept cash as a legal form of payment, and condemn any move by local or federal governments to cease the distribution or acceptance of cash.
