The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the closure of the Bramston Beach green waste allocated dumping area.
- Bramston Beach is a regional area comprising four streets and approximately 120 homes (some only part time occupied) with mostly elderly residents.
- For most there is the inability to transport green waste to the now nearest transfer station (60km round trip).
- Tropical North Queensland requires constant year-round green waste management, is cyclone prone and subjected to adverse current climatic conditions.
- Majority of homes back onto council/state or national park land, which residents also maintain for environmental safety, and including the wildlife, flora, and fauna, as well as their own properties.
- Residents also recycle the green waste using cuttings to replenish gardens and mulch for water conservation.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the state government to provide a green waste facility in close proximity to all Bramston Beach residents.
