Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that according to Queensland Health, every part of Cunjevoi or Alocasia brisbanensis, Alocasia macrorrhizos plants are poisonous. It has been found that even a small snippet of the plant could kill an adult, child or pet in under 30 minutes. These plants are sold in nurseries under many names such as Buddha’s Hand and Elephant Ears, often without any warning labels as to just how dangerous and poisonous they are. These plants are so dangerous, that even whipper snipping near the plant or pruning the plant can put a person in grave danger. Many people buy the plant for its good looks and flowers, but this plant is both poisonous and very deadly especially to children and pets.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call for the total ban of the sale, keeping, growing or removing from our rainforests Cunjevoi or Alocasia brisbanensis, Alocasia macrorrhizos plants across the state.
