Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the continued deaths to koalas and wallabies along Boundary Road in Camp Hill contributed to by the current 70km/h speed limit, and that the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) does not factor deaths to wildlife when requests to changed speed limits are considered. Previous requests to reduce the speed limit through the speed limit review process have not been considered due to the MUTCD not recognising wildlife strikes. Brisbane City Council has delivered several projects to protect wildlife in and around Boundary Road, however it is critical that the State now reduces the speed limit to further protect koalas and wallabies in the area.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to amend the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices so that when considering a change in the speed limit, wildlife deaths form part of the assessment process.
