Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that in September 2018 the then Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, Hon Lynham, responded to petition 2950-18 requesting that solar panels and batteries to be mandated on freestanding houses by outlining the government’s various policies and schemes and rejecting the need to mandate solar and storage uptake for homes. However, the uptake of solar and batteries remains insufficient.

The cost of solar panels and batteries is a tiny fraction of the cost of houses and for rental properties negative gearing can be used to offset same.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to amend legislation to mandate that solar panels and storage batteries be put on all freestanding houses by requiring this be done before contracts can be exchanged for the sale or rental of those properties.
