TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the devastating loss to the family, friends and community of Kate Leadbetter, Matthew Field and unborn child and believes that the sentence imposed on the juvenile responsible was manifestly inadequate and not in line with community expectations.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to join with Cr Karen Williams, Mayor of Redland City Council, and the people of Redlands to

(a) request the Attorney General lodge an appeal against this sentence and

(b) enact legislative changes to curb juvenile crime, including reinstating breach of bail as an offense.
