Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the Old Cleveland Road and Gateway Motorway on-ramp upgrade project is creating unsafe conditions for people cycling west along Old Cleveland Road. This is contrary to the Queensland Government Cycling Infrastructure Policy which specifies that Transport and Main Roads (TMR) funded projects on principal cycle routes will explicitly provide cycling facilities within the project’s scope, and that these will be “typically high quality solutions”. The current works have removed existing cycling infrastructure, and the result will see fast-moving traffic turning across the path of people seeking to cycle along Old Cleveland Road – which is the main connection between the Redlands and Brisbane local government area. The risk of a serious or fatal collision occurring under these conditions is very high.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to direct that TMR comply with the Cycling Infrastructure Policy on all future projects, and that the Old Cleveland Road and Gateway Motorway interchange be made safe for people cycling along Old Cleveland Road and connecting to and from Mount Petrie Road.
