TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the multiple negative effects of the currently gazetted Northern Section of the Coomera-Connector or Second Ml which directly affects the entire suburb of Eagleby. On 23 November 2019, in a joint statement from the Premier, Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk, and the Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Honourable Mark Bailey it was announced that the Northern Section would be on hold for further consultation. This was particularly in response to concerns raised by the Eagleby Community and Wetlands Group. These concerns included: increased traffic noise and air pollution, multiple effects on a world quality Complex Wetland System and the bird and plant life it supports, building on a flood plain, pollution of the Logan River and Moreton Bay due to acid sulphate soil, unreasonable cost. While the currently proposed Northern Section remains gazetted and it appears that TMR are now actively investigating alternatives, which could have been considered prior to gazettal, those landholders directly affected are unable to make independent life choices regarding the use or sale of their properties. This is not fair. It may eventuate that measures undertaken in the Southern Section of the Coomera-Connector and the continuing upgrade to the M1 may alleviate the traffic situation with the consequence that the Northern Section as proposed, may never be required.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to remove the currently proposed Northern Section of the Coomera Connector project from maps until a final decision is made regarding the route.
