The petition of the Electors of the Division of Capalaba draws to the attention of the House, our opposition to the proposal to build an Ambulance Station on the corner of Randall Rd and Old Cleveland Road East, Birkdale (one of 5 proposed sites). The reasons include the following: concerns that the area around Birkdale South State School will become hazardous for commuting families and students. Our Preschool operates a half day program and families cross at the Old Cleveland Road East pedestrian crossing at all times of the day; concerns that the Barron Road Roundabout, which is already a dangerous roundabout due to poor visibility, will become even more so with the addition of an Ambulance thoroughfare. The road is also a single lane carriageway; concerns about the noise impact on the neighbouring area and to the School. Your petitioners therefore request the House to not build the proposed Ambulance Station on the corner of Randall Road and Old Cleveland Road East Birkdale.
