Overview

The Ombudsman Act 2001 (the Act) provides for a strategic review of the Ombudsman’s Office to be conducted every five years (see Division 4).

The strategic review includes a review of the Ombudsman’s functions and a review of the Ombudsman’s performance of the functions to assess whether they are being performed economically, effectively and efficiently (section 83(8)).

The current (and previous) strategic review was conducted by Mr Henry Smerdon AM.

The review report, which included 57 recommendations, was tabled on 17 May, 2012. A copy of the report can be accessed here.

Public Hearing

On Wednesday 20 June 2012 the Committee met with the following people:

Report

On 22 November 2012, the Committee tabled its Report No. 15, Strategic Review of the Office of the Queensland Ombudsman. A copy of the report is available here or can be accessed at Related Publications.

As the Committee made a single recommendation for the Legislative Assembly to note the Report, there is no requirement for the Government to table a response.
