Referral

On 14 October 2014, the Recreation Areas Management and Another Act Amendment Bill 2014 was introduced into the Legislative Assembly by the Hon Steven Dickson MP, Minister for National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing.

The Bill was referred to the Health and Community Services Committee in accordance with Standing Order 131. The committee is required to report to the Parliament by 20 November 2014.

The Bill

The Bill proposes to amend the Recreation Areas Management Act 2006 and the Forestry Act 1959 to:

• provide for the granting of a single instrument to authorise commercial activities operating across recreation areas and State and/or Commonwealth Marine Parks, including the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area
• provide for an alternative mechanism to regulate access to recreation areas, State forests and timber reserves for higher impact non-commercial community, sports and recreation events that are currently regulated under the group activity permit (GAP) classification, and
• remove the GAP classification.
