Referral

On 20 August 2013 the Nature Conservation and Other Legislation Amendment Bill (No. 2) 2013 was introduced into the Legislative Assembly by the Hon Steve Dickson MP, Minister for National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing. 

The Bill was referred to the Health and Community Services Committee in accordance with Standing Order 131. The committee is required to report to the Parliament by 9 October 2013.

The Bill

The Bill amends the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and other related legislation. The Bill’s objectives are to:

  • allow commercial, cultural and recreational use of national parks and other public land
  • reduce red tape, and
  • streamline legislative processes.

The committee will examine the policy to be given effect by the Bill and the application of fundamental legislative principles in section 4 of the Legislative Standards Act 1992.

Hearing and briefing

The committee held a public briefing on the Bill at Parliament House Brisbane on Monday 2 September. Following the briefing, Mr Jason Jacobi, A/Deputy Director-General, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Department of National Parks, Recreation, Sport and Racing provided a Letter of Clarification to the committee and Answers to Questions taken on Notice at the briefing.
