About The Bill
On 2 May 2013, Mr Shane Knuth MP, Member for Dalrymple, introduced the Milk Pricing (Fair Milk Mark Bill 2013. In accordance with Standing Order 131, this Private Members’ Bill has been referred to the Agriculture, Resources and Environment Committee for examination and report.
The committee will examine the policies the Bill seeks to give effect to, the Bill’s lawfulness, and the application of fundamental legislative principles, as set out in section 4 of the Legislative Standards Act 1992.
The committee must report to Parliament on the Bill by 4 November 2013.
The objectives of the Bill are to:
Provide for the setting of a fair price to be paid to dairy farmers for the production of milk to ensure that a sustainable dairy industry continues in Queensland, and
Establish a fair milk mark to be placed on containers of milk to indicate to Queensland consumers that a fair price has been paid to the dairy farmer who produced the milk.
