Oversight of the Integrity Commissioner during the 57th Parliament

On 13 February 2024, responsibility for oversight of the Integrity Commissioner was transferred to the Cost of Living and Economics Committee. The Cost of Living and Economics Committee’s webpage can be accessed here.    

Oversight of the Integrity Commissioner

The committee has responsibilities under the Standing Orders and Integrity Act 2009 with regard to oversight of the Queensland Integrity Commissioner.

The committee's role is to:

  • monitor and review the Integrity Commissioner’s performance of the functions of the office
  • report to the Legislative Assembly on:
    • any matter concerning the Integrity Commissioner, the Commissioner’s functions or the performance of those functions that the committee considers should be drawn to the attention of the Legislative Assembly
    • any changes to the functions, structures and procedures of the Integrity Commissioner that are desirable for the more effective operation of the Integrity Commissioner or the Integrity Act 2009
  • examine the annual report of the Integrity Commissioner and, if appropriate, comment on any aspect of the report and make recommendations, and
  • examine five-yearly strategic review reports when tabled and, if appropriate, comment on any aspect of the report and make recommendations.

The committee must be consulted on:

  • the five yearly strategic review of the Integrity Commissioner, including the terms of reference and the appointment of the Integrity Commissioner
  • the selection process for, and appointment of a person, as Integrity Commissioner
  • a motion to remove or suspend the Integrity Commissioner.
