About the BILL

On 27 October 2022, the Hon Mark Ryan MP, Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services, introduced the Police Service Administration and Other Legislation Amendment Bill (No. 2) 2022 into the Queensland Parliament.  The Bill was referred to the Community Support and Services Committee for detailed consideration.

Objectives of the Bill 

The main objectives of the Bill are to deliver operational improvements and efficiencies for the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services by amending the Police Service Administration Act 1990 (PSAA), the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 (PPRA), the Weapons Act 1990 (WA), the Fire and Emergency Services Act 1990 (FES Act), and the Disaster Management Act 2003 (DM Act).

The Bill aims to:

  • improve the police discipline system by amendment to the PSAA
  • provide for the summary dismissal police officers or police recruits who are sentenced to imprisonment for an offence
  • remove duplicated and obsolete provisions of the PSAA and PPRA
  • amend the WA so that licensing functions can be carried out more efficiently
  • amend the FES Act and the DM Act to support the ongoing effectiveness of services delivered by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
