Oversight of the Queensland Ombudsman
Overview
In accordance with the Ombudsman Act 2001 (Ombudsman Act) and Inspector of Detention Services Act 2022 (IDS Act), the committee's functions are to:
- monitor and review the performance of:
- the Ombudsman’s functions under the Ombudsman Act
- the Inspector of Detention Services’ functions under the IDS Act
- report to the Legislative Assembly on:
- any matter relating to the Ombudsman or the Inspector of Detention Services, their functions or the performance of those functions that the committee considers should be drawn to the attention of the Legislative Assembly
- any changes to the functions, structures and procedures of the Ombudsman or the Inspector of Detention Services that the committee considers desirable for the more effective operation of the Ombudsman Act or the IDS Act
- examine annual reports of the office of the Ombudsman and any reports tabled under the Ombudsman Act or the IDS Act and, if appropriate, comment on any aspect of those reports
- be consulted on the selection process, appointment and matters relating to appointment of the Ombudsman and Inspector of Detention Services
- be consulted on the appointment of the reviewer for strategic reviews of the office of the Ombudsman and the terms of reference of a strategic review
- be consulted on, and agree to, any motion for an address to the Governor to suspend or remove the Ombudsman and the Inspector of Detention Services
- consider and approve funding proposals for additional funding prepared by the Ombudsman.

Please note the committee does not have jurisdiction to investigate individual complaints in relation to the Queensland Ombudsman, or the Queensland Ombudsman's Office.
