Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that flood mapping being done at a Local Government level is creating inconsistency and undermining confidence in Queensland’s flood resilience by having multiple flood studies for the same waterway, with significantly different outcomes depending on which Local Government area you are located. For example: the Logan River covers Redlands City, Logan City, Scenic Rim and Gold Coast City each with their own flood study, however at a section of the boundary between Logan City and Gold Coast there is a 50cm difference in 1% AEP just because of the LGA.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to suspend any changes to Local Government Flood Overlay Codes including Temporary Local Planning Instruments that have Flood Overlay Codes and conduct a review of flood studies that cross LGA boundaries to ensure AEP flood levels are consistently applied across LGAs.
