About the BILL 

On Wednesday, 4 March 2026 the Hon Deb Frecklington MP, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity, introduced the Justice and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2026 into the Queensland Parliament. The Bill was referred to the Justice, Integrity and Community Safety Committee for detailed consideration.

The bill aims to enhance community safety, update legislation to ensure it is fit for purpose and responsive to modern society, and ensure the efficient administration of justice.

The policy objectives of the Bill are to:

• Disrupt the theft, sale and disposal of stolen metal as scrap metal;
• Create greater coronial efficiencies, ease the pressure on the coronial system and streamline the allocation of coronial resources;
• Strengthen the stock offence framework by increasing the monetary penalties for nine stock related offences; and
• Facilitate the disclosure of information to accredited media entities regarding court proceedings.

The Bill also amends a broad range of legislation in the justice and integrity portfolio relating to the administration of justice, including civil and criminal proceedings, right to information and information privacy laws, property law, public records, gaming and occupational licensing.
