Certain Contemporary Electoral Matters

Overview

On 26 August 2008, the Legal, Constitutional and Administrative Review Committee released an Issues Paper for its Inquiry into Certain Contemporary Electoral Matters, containing the following terms of reference:

The terms of reference for this inquiry have been set broadly so that members of the community can raise a variety of matters with the Committee.

In light of Queensland's fundamental democratic principles, to examine the law and administrative procedures of the Queensland parliamentary electoral system in terms of providing free, honest and fair elections for Queensland's contemporary community.

The inquiry will focus on the 2004 and 2006 State elections. This inquiry will also consider the Electoral Amendment Bill 2008 and any other associated bills.

This inquiry will not consider the conduct of the 2008 local government elections nor the electoral district redistribution system for elections in Queensland.
