Objectives and Reasons for the Bill

The policy objectives of the Bill are to implement appropriate recommendations from the Australian Federal Police’s Police and Community Safety Review.  This can only be achieved through legislative reform.

The Committee resolved not to hold a public hearing on the Bill.

Referral

On 6 March 2014 the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, the Honourable Jack Dempsey MP, introduced the Public Safety Business Agency Bill 2014 into the Queensland Parliament.  In accordance with Standing Order 131 of the Standing Rules and Orders of the Legislative Assembly, the Bill was referred to the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee (the Committee) for detailed consideration.

By motion of the House, the Committee is required to report to the Parliament by Tuesday, 29 April 2014.

The Public Safety Business Agency Bill 2014 was passed, with amendment, by the Legislative Assembly on 6 May 2014.
