ABOUT THE BILL

The Bill was referred to the Committee by the Legislative Assembly on 16 April 2013. The Committee is required to consider the Bill and report to the Legislative Assembly by 16 July 2013.

The Bill will amend legislation to:  

  1. include Year 7 in the definition of secondary school from 2015
  2. allow for a streamlined notification process to assist those non-state schools changing accreditation arrangements
  3. include the Preparatory year in state school students’ entitlement to a basic allocation of semesters of State education
  4. allow for the cancellation of international student enrolments at state schools due to non-payment of fees.

Submissions

The Committee invites submissions addressing the Bill, from all interested parties.

The closing date for written submissions is 5pm on Friday, 24 May 2013.

Submitters may request that their personal details be withheld from publication, and the Committee will make a determination on any such request.

TIMELINE

Public Briefing - 18 April 2013.  The Department of Education, Training and Employment provided a public briefing to the Committee on the Bill.  A transcript of the briefing is available here.
