The Legislative Assembly requires the Community Affairs Committee to oversee the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian. The Committee is to monitor and review the performance of the Commission.

The Committee is to examine the annual reports of the Commission and report to the Legislative Assembly on any matter concerning the Commission as well as any changes to their functions, structures or procedures, which may lead to more effective operation of the Commission.

As part of its oversight responsibility for the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian, the Community Affairs Committee held a public hearing.
