ABOUT THE BILL

On 13 February 2019 the Minister for Police and Minister for Corrective Services, Hon. Mark Ryan MP, introduced the Police Service Administration (Discipline Reform) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2019 into the Legislative Assembly.

In accordance with the Standing Order 135A, the Bill was referred to the Economics and Governance Committee for consideration.

The objective of the Police Service Administration (Discipline Reform) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2019 was to implement a new police discipline system that would:

  • ensure the public’s confidence in the Queensland Police Service is maintained
  • provide efficiencies in the investigation of complaints and hearing of allegations
  • educate officers and improve their performance, and
  • suitably discipline officers, if required.
