Transport Affordability Amendment Bill 2026
About the Bill
On 11 February 2026 Mr Bart Mellish MP, Member for Aspley introduced the Transport Affordability Amendment Bill 2026 into the Queensland Parliament. The Bill was referred to State Development, Infrastructure and Works Committee for examination.

The stated objectives of the Bill are to:
- provide for a head of power to enable fuel price reporting;
- cap daily fuel price increases to no more than 5 cents; and
- require the government of the day to pass a motion in the Legislative Assembly (with 28 days’ notice) before public transport fares can be increased from the current 50 cents.

- email address
- mailing address, and
- daytime telephone number.
Please ensure your submission includes the above or it may not be considered by the committee.

PUBLIC PROCEEDINGS
The committee has scheduled a public briefing on the Bill with Mr Bart Mellish MP, Member for Aspley on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, and public hearings are currently planned for Wednesday, 3 June 2026 and if required on either Monday, 1 June or Friday 5, June 2026 (to be confirmed).
