Functions of the Committee

The information on this page relates to the committee of the 50th Parliament, which ended with the dissolution of the Parliament on 13 January 2004.

The Select Committee on the Consequences of Changing Political Status was established by the Queensland Legislative Assembly on 9 October 2003. The committee's terms of reference were to investigate, consult with the community and report on the Parliament of Queensland (Change of Political Status) Bill 2003, including—

  1. The philosophical and practical issues arising from the Bill;
  2. The impact of the legislation on the political and parliamentary process;
  3. Constitutional and legal ramifications;
  4. Costs to the community; and
  5. Practice and experience in other jurisdictions (especially those that have similar legislation).

The committee was unable to finalise its report before the Parliament was dissolved on 13 January 2004. As the Bill had not been passed, it lapsed.
