ABOUT THE BILL
On 3 June 2015 the Treasurer, Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships introduced the Holidays and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2015 into the Queensland Parliament. In accordance with Standing Order 131, the Bill was referred to the Finance and Administration Committee for detailed consideration. The Parliament agreed a motion that the Committee report by 10 August 2015.
The policy objectives of the Bill, as outlined in the explanatory notes, are:
- to give effect to the Government’s pre-election commitment ‘Honouring the real Labour Day’ by restoring the Labour Day public holiday to the first Monday in May. The commitment also provided for the movement of the Queen’s Birthday public holiday from June to October; and
- to support the implementation of an online application service for high risk work (HRW) licences using electronic identity verification and the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ (DTMR) digital bank of customer image sets and card production processes.
